Dear Family and Friends,
As you might remember from previous letters, there are frequent requests here for English lessons. A few months back, we shared the cost with Andy and Priscilla D’Varga to buy Level 1 of Rosetta Stone-English. It can be installed on two computers and then anyone who wants to “sign in” can have a couple of hours of English classes. We’ve had a few “takers” since we’ve had it, but no one has come back to actually finish Level 1 yet.
A few days ago, I arrived home and was told that there was someone waiting on the back porch who wants to learn English. I went back to see who our visitor was and to my surprise, it was Nelly a gal we’ve worked with before and who prayed to receive the Lord with me a couple years back. We greeted each other warmly and sure enough she is now studying at the local University and needed help with her English for that evening. She liked Rosetta Stone and was happy to began her “class” here. Her real purpose for coming (according to her) was to get help for her class at the U that night. I'm sure the Lord brought her by for other reasons. Now that she needs help with English, her frequent visits will allow God's real purpose to be fulfilled in her. Please pray for her spiritual growth.
Another very exciting happening around here is Rick's distribution of the New Testaments out in the jungle villages. He loves the opportunities that arise with the NTs readily available. Many schools in the deep jungle have been blessed with the little blue books, the Word of God! This week, along with some of the other Gideons, he'll be going on a two hour road trip to distribute in 4 or 5 schools along the way. Local hospitals and the jail in Puyo have also been "targets" for distribution. Praise the Lord!!
In my "little world", Shell Christian Preschool is going great and also the Bible Club we have once a week (about 25 in attendance) is showing some lasting fruit. The 4 I have in preschool love the play time, Bible stories, songs, crafts and whatever else presents itself each day. We'll be finishing the Creation story in a couple of weeks and that will lead us right into some special things for Thanksgiving and then the Christmas story. I'm so grateful for mothers and also a young college student who come to help with crafts, story timr and some of the lessons (ie. shapes and colors). Each day is full of surprises!!
On my days off, I'm trying to keep up on the paper work for Aeroley (the name of the company we had to form in order to continue flying). It doesn't seem as though we should have a whole lot of filing, filling out of forms and accounting to do for one little Cessna 172 but, believe me, it keeps Rick and me both quite busy.
A great surprise for us this last month was a visit from Joel. He actually came with a group of about 10 men who worked on a helicopter that had suffered a fire in the cabin. Our time with him was limited but it was wonderful to have him close by and get to share some evening meals together.
We want to wish you a very HAPPY, BLESSED THANKSGIVING and please know...
WE'RE THANKFUL FOR YOU!!

Love and Blessings,
Rick and Sharon

The Plane Facts-Sept./Oct. 2012

Dear Christian Friend,
Last Thursday night's Gideon meeting ended on an exciting note as the group extended an official welcome to membership.  Next they declared that wherever we fly, I can call the villagers together and distribute the little blue Spanish New Testaments to the school children FREE!  “Please keep clear records and take lots of pictures,” were their final words. (You can see some of the pictures below) Wow!  What a blessing this is turning out to be for jungle Evangelism!  Shortly afterward a Waorani man needing a flight to Daimontaro came and talked to Sharon. Enqueri told her that he had received the Lord some years ago with Steve Saint.  When we arrived in his village we found the school teacher, Baiwa to be a strong Christian. He was overjoyed to have all his students receive God's Word.  As we were leaving he said, “The village wants to invite the Christians from America to visit and help teach us the Bible and English.  We’ll give them free room and board!”
Next, Cuban missionaries Ramon and Cari Rodriguez arrived back from Miami and wanted to be taken home to Ayui, the Shuar village where they live. So, we packed up our box of New Testaments and pushed the plane out. The people heard we were coming so the entire school was eagerly awaiting our arrival.   The remote schools in the Amazon basin have very little, almost no, reading material, so the New Testaments become welcome educational tools for the school teacher.  After sharing who the Gideon's are, we always take time to explain about the NT books, pointing out that the big numbers indicate chapters, the small ones are verses.  Time seems to stop as I see the kids faces light up with God's Word in their hands for the very first time.  Please pray that the precious Word given will impact each life.
Of late, we have been training Juan Carrillo a new commercial pilot.  Juan is a brother in the Lord and wants to serve God as a pilot.  He has worked for years as a tour guide on the boats off Galapagos Islands and speaks English well. I have really been putting him through his paces and he's doing a great job of flying as well as sharing the Gospel with the Indigenous people of the interior!  His wife, Marielisa, and daughter, Rebeca are still on Galapagos until the school year ends there in January, then they plan to move to Shell.  Please pray for this precious family.  Let’s seek God as to how He will choose to use them for His Glory.
Grandma Sharon is back into pre-school action. Our youngest grandson Jake is now at the right age so she says it’s time to start again. As I write this there are 3 little guys “enrolled”. The other two are sons of medical missionaries here in Shell. There’s room for up to three more students. She started on Tues. Oct. 2nd so by the time you receive this she will be going at it full force…and will need lots of prayer. J

                                                                                                Love like Jesus,

News from July and August 2012

Dear Ones,

This month has been one of the best of my life so far. The Vero Beach Central Assembly team was here for 7 days. It's difficult to express the incredible blessing they were to so many people during their short visit. Around 700 children were ministered to during the VBS sessions and approximately 500 adults in the evening services. They came prepared with wonderful Bible stories for the kids. The young ones were wide eyed as they watched Daniel get thrown into the lions den, Esther courageously risking her life to save her people and David killing Goliath. The main theme of the Vacation Bible School lessons was "Jesus is Our Super Hero". The songs and worship dance brought tears to many eyes as the group shared with so much love and tenderness.

For "Miracle Night" (Sunday-July 15th), we joined together with the prayer group from our local church and were part of leading several people to the best miracle of all……receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior. There was a huge crowd at church that night and each one who went forward received a time of personal prayer and blessing. Language didn't seem to be a barrier as the group from Vero Beach prayed along side of the church folks. Thank you for everything, Pastor Larry and team, thank you!

As you can imagine, the days were busy with the Florida team here and each morning I was hurrying to get ready to meet the group to begin our day of ministry. One morning, as I was just getting out of the shower, two ladies came to the gate. It was a mother and her daughter. The mom told Rick that the young girl (about 13) wanted to know God. Rick called to ask me to talk to them. Sure enough, that young lady was like ripe fruit ready to fall off the tree. We shared the Gospel message and she gave her life to Jesus. What a wonderful sight to see Melina's smile and that mom just beaming with happiness to see her daughter come to that point in her life. It was well worth it to be running a bit late that morning.

When the Florida team left, I went into "full preparation mode" for the arrival of our family. The gang began to arrive on July 25th.  These last 6 days have been so full of love and laughter. It's amazing to see how the Lord worked out all the details for this reunion. It's been over 16 years since we have all been in the same place at one time. When I think back on our wedding day it seems like such a short time ago but seeing everyone here and reminiscing, I realize SO much has happened in these 45 years. Thank you, Lord and praise Your Holy Name for Rick and our family!

Please continue to pray for all of us. Thank you for standing with us. We wouldn't be here without your love, prayers and support. You are greatly appreciated!

Love and blessings,
Rick and Sharon
